Alan Reed is a Douglas County native. He was born in Carson City, educated in the county school system and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from California State University Stanislaus.
He joined Warren Reed Insurance in 1974, and has been president since 2000. Alan resides in Minden with Dana, his wife, of twenty eight years. They have five children, and five grandchildren. Their eldest, Christine, is a graduate of Washington State University and is a school teacher in Anderson, California. Their son, A.G., is a graduate of economics from Hillsdale College (Michigan), and he just finished his first year of law school at the University of Indiana. Son Taylor is a business major, and recently completed his third year at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Benjamin is a student athlete at Douglas High, and Thomas is attending Carson Valley Middle School.
The Reeds also own and operate Barone and Reed Food Company, an upscale casual restaurant that they opened in 2004. The business site is the original office property of this insurance agency.
The entire Reed family is heavily involved in many community activities, including the St. Gall Catholic Church, Boy Scouts, youth sports and Douglas High football. Alan Reed is currently in his fourth year as the head basketball coach at Carson Valley's newest school, Sierra Lutheran High School.
